Official Bulgarian visa photo requirements for 2026. Size, background and rules. Create a compliant photo online.
Image Created with AI for IllustrationA short-stay visa issued by Bulgaria forms part of the Schengen visa system. The applicant’s photograph accompanies the passport and evidence explaining the proposed journey, whether the visit concerns tourism, business or another permitted purpose. Use the visa finder to start with the correct destination and category before assembling the photographic and supporting material.
The Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs specifies a colour photograph measuring 3.5 by 4.5 centimeters against a light background. Its guidance calls for a clear frontal likeness, with the face occupying most of the image, and excludes dark glasses and pictures cropped from casual snapshots. These points explain why a dedicated portrait is preferable to adapting a holiday picture.
Check framing and photo quality before preparing the requested prints. A natural facial expression and a recognizable likeness should remain clear after the image is resized. Keep the original digital photograph available rather than relying on repeated scans of a small paper photograph, particularly if the receiving application service requests a replacement.
The embassy and consulate directory helps identify the responsible Bulgarian representation and its authorised application arrangements. Confirm the checklist for your actual visa category, since a long-stay application has a different purpose from a short visit. Bring the passport and other requested identity documents with the travel evidence, ensuring the photograph belongs to the same applicant throughout the file.
Photo dimensions must be precise to avoid rejection. The face-to-frame ratio is equally important for proper identification.
Use a plain, distraction-free background. We replace it automatically to meet official criteria.
Proper lighting ensures your photo is clear and natural. Uneven exposure or artificial glare can lead to rejection.
Your face must be fully visible with a neutral expression for easy identification and facial recognition.
Glasses are allowed only if they do not obstruct visibility. Headwear is permitted only for valid medical or religious reasons.
Improper posture can lead to application rejection. Your face and shoulders should be correctly aligned and fully visible.
