Getting Ready for Your Colombian Digital Cédula Photograph

For a Colombian national identity card, the relevant authority is the Registraduría Nacional del Estado Civil. Its first-time digital cédula procedure applies to Colombian citizens reaching adulthood. Understanding which identity-card service you need helps you prepare for the photograph without confusing the cédula with a passport or a foreign resident’s identification document.

The Registraduría explains that the photograph for a first digital cédula is captured digitally during the in-person procedure. Its clothing advice is unusually specific: choose dark or strongly coloured clothing, and avoid white or other light-coloured tops. It also advises against thin straps, large collars and pronounced necklines. These recommendations help maintain separation between your clothing and the photographic background.

Before attending, use our explanation of facial expression to practise a relaxed, straightforward pose. The photo quality guide can also help you understand why recognisable facial features and a clear image matter. Preparing at home is useful, while the capture method for the actual identity-card application remains the one specified by the Registraduría.

At the appointment, carefully check the personal information, photograph and signature recorded for your application before confirming them. The digital cédula process also uses your personal mobile number and email address, so check those details rather than relying on someone else’s contact information. If you are requesting a replacement or another type of identity document, follow that service’s own instructions.
