The Photograph on Congo’s National Identity Card

The Carte d’Identité Nationale, or CIN, is the national identity document administered by ONIP in Congo-Kinshasa. The implementing order describes a secured, digitized document based on biometric information, with a photograph of the holder and a machine-readable zone. The portrait is therefore part of a national identification record, rather than simply an attachment to an application.

The order covers Congolese citizens living domestically and abroad. ONIP’s presentation of the card also identifies the integrated portrait and electronic chip among its features.
