The Photograph and Personal Record on Egypt’s National ID

Egypt’s national identity card links the holder’s portrait to the national-number record and other personal information. Renewal is also an opportunity to address supported changes to details such as occupation, address or marital status. The photograph serves visual identification, while the supporting records establish the information entered for the cardholder.

The Egyptian mission in Belgium publishes a renewal service for expired cards and directs first-card applications to Egypt. Its checklist includes both sides of the existing card and the passport, with additional evidence for changes. These are the arrangements of that consular service; availability of an overseas identity-card service should be established before organising the appointment.

Keep a current, natural likeness and distinguish the new photographic record from the photocopies of existing identity documents. A copy of the old card supports the application but does not explain how the receiving service will collect or update the portrait.
