Your Portrait in Ghana’s Chip-Embedded Passport

The photograph in a passport issued by Ghana connects the traveler with the identity recorded in the booklet. Ghana introduced its chip-embedded passport in 2025, and the official portal describes online preparation followed by biometric capture at the selected Passport Application Centre. Treat the photograph as part of that enrolment, rather than assuming the online form alone completes the identity checks.

Prepare a recognisable likeness and familiarise yourself with the portrait requirements before the appointment. The detailed guidance below helps you review framing, facial expression and photo quality; it is useful whether you are checking a supplied image or preparing for capture by the passport service. Avoid taking the photograph on an older identity card as proof that the same image is still suitable today.

The Ministry’s document checklist asks applicants to bring originals to the biometric appointment, including the printed application and the supporting identity documents relevant to their case. Keep the appointment centre consistent with the application you submitted, and check the mission’s instructions when applying abroad. Our embassy and consulate directory can help locate that representation without confusing its local arrangements with those of a centre in Ghana.

Once the passport and portrait are organised, use the visa finder for the separate destination requirements of your planned journey. A visa photograph may need a different delivery format, so retain the current original image where available and check the next application before ordering additional copies.
