The Face Image in Haiti’s National Identification System

Haiti’s national identification card is connected to a broader personal record managed by the Office National d’Identification. The ONI describes the newer CINU as a biometric identity document, with a photograph supporting facial recognition alongside other identification data. Its image has a practical role in linking the card with its holder in Haiti.

The ONI also explains the card’s use across public services, including passport and driving-license requests, employment and financial transactions. A useful recognisable likeness matters because the document may be presented repeatedly in different settings. It should show the individual clearly rather than reproduce a favorite older image that no longer reflects their appearance.
