Icelandic Passport Photo

Your New Portrait at Iceland’s Passport Photo Appointment

An Icelandic passport can begin with an online application, but the photograph remains an essential part of completing the request. The District Commissioners explain that applicants who pre-register must attend a photo appointment within thirty days. A new photograph is required for a new or renewed passport, so an image from the previous booklet is not automatically carried forward.

Iceland also allows a photography-studio image through a particular delivery route: the studio sends it directly to the District Commissioner’s office, and the office still takes a comparison photograph. Follow those instructions when arranging the digital delivery format; privately forwarding an image is not the same official submission route.

Before the appointment, review your portrait for a recognisable likeness. The requirements below provide the detailed appearance checks. Our guides to framing, facial expression and photo quality help you prepare a clear image, whether it is captured at the office or organised through a studio.

Bring the requested identity documents, such as your previous passport, driving license or identity card. A child’s application also involves the relevant guardian consent and attendance arrangements. For applications overseas, use our embassy and consulate directory to find an Icelandic mission offering regular passport services; honorary consuls have a different emergency-document role. Organising the portrait and identification together helps you complete the appointment without treating online pre-registration as the final stage.
