A diplomatic or service passport from Italy identifies a person travelling in an official capacity. The photograph belongs with the evidence of that role, not with a general tourist-passport application alone. Italy’s embassy in Luxembourg publishes a specific consular checklist that brings these items together and provides a useful example of the submission process.

The Luxembourg checklist asks for two biometric photographs and specifies a jacket and tie for men. It also requests certification of the applicant’s position from the employing organisation, the application form and the previous diplomatic or service passport, or another identity document when that is unavailable. For the portrait, biometrics explains the purpose of a clear identifying image. Review the photo requirements, facial expression and photo quality before making the prints.
