Official Lithuanian passport photo requirements for 2026. Size, background and rules. Create a compliant photo online.
Image Created with AI for IllustrationA passport issued by Lithuania uses the holder’s facial image in more than one form. The Migration Department describes an engraved photograph on the personal-data page and a contactless chip containing the face image and other biometric information. The same identification purpose therefore runs through both the visible document and its electronic record.
When applying domestically, citizens book a Migration Department visit. Overseas arrangements are handled by the consular service, which may collect the image during attendance. The Lithuanian embassy in Switzerland, for example, photographs adults at the appointment and gives separate instructions for bringing young children’s photographs. Our embassy and consulate directory helps locate the mission handling your case.
Prepare for a portrait that provides a recognisable likeness, rather than reproducing the appearance of an older booklet. The explanation of biometrics puts the image’s electronic role in context; the guidance below covers photo quality, framing and facial expression. Keep the requested identity documents ready for the appointment as well. A clear image supports identification, while the application establishes the personal details recorded with it. After the passport is issued, our visa finder can help with any separate photo-bearing application required for the destination.
Photo dimensions must be precise to avoid rejection. The face-to-frame ratio is equally important for proper identification.
Use a plain, distraction-free background. We replace it automatically to meet official criteria.
Proper lighting ensures your photo is clear and natural. Uneven exposure or artificial glare can lead to rejection.
Your face must be fully visible with a neutral expression for easy identification and facial recognition.
Glasses are allowed only if they do not obstruct visibility. Headwear is permitted only for valid medical or religious reasons.
Improper posture can lead to application rejection. Your face and shoulders should be correctly aligned and fully visible.
