Surinamese Passport Photo

A Fresh Portrait for Suriname’s Electronic Passport

The electronic passport introduced in Suriname makes the facial image part of a travel document designed around electronic security and biometrics. Burgerzaken lists a supplied passport photo as optional for ordinary applications and renewals, while recommending one for babies. This is useful when planning an appointment: preparing a suitable portrait can still help, but bringing prints and having the face recorded through the issuing service are different steps. Follow the instructions from the office receiving your application.

A baby’s picture deserves extra preparation because positioning and timing can be harder than for an adult. Choose a moment when the child is settled, keep supporting hands outside the framing, and inspect the image for motion blur. For an adult, a current recognisable likeness, straightforward facial expression and even lighting are more useful than a polished social photograph. Check the background and retain a clear original rather than repeatedly compressing a copy sent through messaging apps.

The application also connects your appearance with the civil records and identity documents presented to Burgerzaken. Take care that the personal details are correct before signing; a good picture cannot resolve a discrepancy in a birth record. If applying through a mission abroad, use the embassy and consulate directory to identify the receiving office and confirm its submission arrangements. The detailed photo requirements below can guide preparation once that office has confirmed how your portrait will be supplied.
