Choosing the Right Photograph for Taiwan’s Arc Route

The Alien Resident Certificate in Taiwan has several application routes, and the National Immigration Agency’s photo instructions are not identical across all of them. Its general residency guidance and the Employment PASS instructions both refer to national ID-style photographic specifications. Check the current instructions for the application route before reusing an existing image. Identify the applicable route before deciding whether an existing portrait is recent enough.

The ARC links your residence status to a recognisable individual. Prepare a clear recognisable likeness that agrees with the passport and other identity documents, with careful framing and an uncomplicated background. For an online application, preserve the original digital photograph at sufficient image resolution; a photograph embedded in a passport scan is not the same as a separate portrait file. For an office submission, follow its directions for prints and supporting originals.

Residency, extension and changes in status also require evidence specific to the reason for residence. An employment-related application and a family-reunion case should not inherit each other’s full checklist merely because both result in an ARC. A calm facial expression and consistent photo quality are useful across those routes, but the current service instructions determine the accepted photograph.
