The Portrait on Aruba’s Resident Cédula

The cédula is the local identity card issued through Censo in Aruba. Its application conditions concern residence and registration: applicants must be at least twelve, registered in the population register and actually resident on the island. Where applicable, a valid residence permit must also be shown. This is a different service from applying for a Dutch passport.

The card legislation published by Censo includes a well-resembling photograph among the identifying information on the document. It also recognizes that a card can become invalid when the photograph no longer resembles its holder. A current portrait is therefore part of the card’s usefulness for identification, rather than merely a decorative element beside the name.

Censo requires a personal application and an individual appointment for each family member. Its public checklist names the old card and, when applicable, the residence permit, but does not give a universal instruction to bring passport prints. Keep a recognizable likeness and bring the requested identity documents so the office can connect your appearance to the population-register record. If no other valid ID is available, Censo describes using previous records or additional identification checks. Explain that situation when arranging the appointment rather than assuming a photograph alone will establish identity or replace the missing supporting document.
