Updating the Portrait on Bahrain’s Identity Card

The identity-card service in Bahrain covers first issuance, renewal, replacement and changes to the photograph or information printed on the card. A request to update the picture is therefore an identifiable card transaction, rather than simply a new passport-photo order. Select the service that matches the change you need in the population record.

The Information & eGovernment Authority asks for a recent color portrait against a white background. Its guidance specifies that the face should occupy 70 to 80 percent of the image. This makes framing particularly relevant: include the head and upper shoulders without leaving excessive empty space around the applicant.

The government guidance distinguishes prints submitted at service centres from a digital photograph supplied through electronic services. Review the photo requirements for your chosen channel, and check photo quality before sending the image. A recognizable likeness should remain visible across the card and the other identity documents used to establish the record.

Citizens and non-Bahraini residents have different service conditions. For example, resident applications can involve information already registered through the Labour Market Regulatory Authority, while some applicants need an appointment to record missing fingerprints and signature. Updating a photograph should be coordinated with those existing records rather than treated as an isolated upload. The authority’s checklist for your applicant category is the place to confirm any additional identity, residence or authorization documents needed.
