Chinese Residence Permit Photo

Adding the Right Portrait to a Chinese Residence Application

A Chinese residence permit records a foreign national’s authorised stay under a specific category. The National Immigration Administration’s service guide covers issue, extension, replacement and reissue for residence on non-diplomatic, non-official grounds. A visa used to enter China and a residence document requested afterwards should therefore be treated as different application stages.

The guide requires a completed foreigner visa-and-document application form and a photograph meeting the national entry-and-exit document photo guidance. Supporting evidence varies with the reason for residence. Organise the portrait alongside that evidence rather than treating a passport-page copy as a substitute for the separate facial image.

Applications normally involve the public-security exit-and-entry authority, with specified exceptions allowing a representative for certain applicants. That procedural detail matters when arranging an appointment, particularly for a child or a person with limited mobility. The office can identify the materials needed for the particular residence category and transaction.

Review the detailed photo requirements below and the explanations of framing, background, facial expression and photo quality before preparing your image. Maintain an accurate likeness across the photograph and supporting identity documents. Our China page connects related Chinese document guidance, and the visa finder supports research into the earlier entry stage. The embassy and consulate directory is useful for nationality-specific consular contacts if a passport issue also needs attention; the residence application itself belongs with the competent Chinese immigration service.
