Official Colombian residence permit photo requirements for 2026. Size, background and rules. Create a compliant photo online.
Image Created with AI for IllustrationColombia separates the visa that authorises your stay from the cédula de extranjería used to identify foreign residents within the country. Migración Colombia issues the cédula de extranjería. When preparing a residence-document photo, first check whether your current step is a visa application with Cancillería or registration for this identification card, because the two services handle photographs differently.
For the cédula de extranjería, Migración Colombia describes a process that starts online with the Formulario Único de Trámites, usually called the FUT. You then arrange an appointment at a Centro Facilitador de Servicios Migratorios. Fingerprints and the photograph are taken during that appointment; starting the application online does not remove the in-person identification stage.
The official instructions ask you to upload the relevant passport and valid visa images as a PDF and bring the original documents and your FUT reference to the appointment. Those supporting-document scans are separate from the portrait used for the card. Check your appointment confirmation before preparing additional files or printouts for the office.
Our guides to facial expression and photo quality explain how to present a clear, recognisable face for a document photograph. They can help you prepare for your appointment, while Migración Colombia’s instructions determine the actual capture and submission process. If you are still applying for the visa itself, use the Colombian visa-photo guidance for that earlier stage.
Photo dimensions must be precise to avoid rejection. The face-to-frame ratio is equally important for proper identification.
Use a plain, distraction-free background. We replace it automatically to meet official criteria.
Proper lighting ensures your photo is clear and natural. Uneven exposure or artificial glare can lead to rejection.
Your face must be fully visible with a neutral expression for easy identification and facial recognition.
Glasses are allowed only if they do not obstruct visibility. Headwear is permitted only for valid medical or religious reasons.
Improper posture can lead to application rejection. Your face and shoulders should be correctly aligned and fully visible.
