Getting the Photograph Ready for Danish Citizen Services

Preparing a passport application in Denmark means bringing the portrait and identity paperwork together for a personal visit to citizen services, known as borgerservice. Danish citizens may apply through any municipality. Check the appointment arrangements at the office you choose and locate your most recently issued passport before attending, including when that passport has expired.

The photograph must show a current likeness and meet Denmark’s defined proportions: 35 by 45 mm overall, with the head positioned within the specified framing limits. The face is shown from the front against a light background without shadows or distracting detail. Confirm how your chosen municipality accepts the picture. Copenhagen, for example, expressly permits a photograph brought on good-quality photographic paper, rather than on a USB drive. Preparing suitable prints beforehand is therefore useful for that route, while other local arrangements should be checked with the receiving office. Keep the original file in case a new print is needed.
