Official Finnish visa photo requirements for 2026. Size, background and rules. Create a compliant photo online.
Image Created with AI for IllustrationA visa to visit Finland requires a portrait as part of the application file. The Foreign Ministry’s general checklist includes one photograph together with the completed and signed form. The picture identifies the traveller, while the supporting documents explain the proposed visit and the applicant’s circumstances.
The ministry directs applicants to country-specific instructions on Finland’s visa application service. Those instructions determine the receiving centre and the materials needed for the relevant location. Preparing the photograph is therefore best done alongside the actual checklist, rather than assuming that Finland’s domestic passport photo-code system is the visa submission method.
The detailed photo requirements below explain the portrait standards, and our framing, background, facial expression and photo quality guidance helps with composition. Preserve a natural, current likeness and keep the image distinct from the passport information-page copy. Each plays a different role in the file, even though both show identifying information.
Use the visa finder to organise entry research and the Finland page to compare related Finnish documents. The embassy and consulate directory helps locate the responsible representation where consular guidance is needed. Assemble the requested identity documents, visit evidence and photograph before the appointment; a residence request for a longer stay follows its own process and should not be confused with this visitor-visa application.
Photo dimensions must be precise to avoid rejection. The face-to-frame ratio is equally important for proper identification.
Use a plain, distraction-free background. We replace it automatically to meet official criteria.
Proper lighting ensures your photo is clear and natural. Uneven exposure or artificial glare can lead to rejection.
Your face must be fully visible with a neutral expression for easy identification and facial recognition.
Glasses are allowed only if they do not obstruct visibility. Headwear is permitted only for valid medical or religious reasons.
Improper posture can lead to application rejection. Your face and shoulders should be correctly aligned and fully visible.
