The British Official-Passport Route Relevant to Jersey Applicants

A Jersey connection does not by itself establish eligibility for a diplomatic passport. For an eligible British official, the relevant published guidance is HM Passport Office’s diplomatic and official-service process. That guidance distinguishes diplomatic passports, official passports and ordinary passports carrying an official observation. It should not be presented as a separate public diplomatic-passport service offered by Jersey.

Confirm the document category with the government department or official office managing the request before preparing the photo submission. The application may involve evidence of the official role as well as the applicant’s existing identity documents. A photograph supports identification of the approved holder; it does not replace the evidence establishing entitlement to the special passport category.

Choose a current recognisable likeness and review the portrait for suitable framing, clear photo quality and an appropriate facial expression. Our photo preparation instructions and the detailed visual specifications below help prepare the image. Follow the issuing service’s directions on prints or a digital delivery format, rather than automatically applying the ordinary Jersey passport print count.

Keep the photograph coordinated with the official application and retain the original if a different output is requested. A ceremonial portrait or a photograph used for a staff biography is not automatically suitable for identity documentation. Once the passport category is confirmed, destination entry arrangements remain a separate matter for the office coordinating the journey.
