Official Kenyan visa photo requirements for 2026. Size, background and rules. Create a compliant photo online.
Image Created with AI for IllustrationFor many travellers to Kenya, the relevant pre-travel process is electronic travel authorisation, or eTA, rather than the former ordinary eVisa application. The Kenyan consulate’s current travel guidance lists a selfie or passport-type photo among the application materials. This portrait is separate from the passport image and supports the electronic record of the traveller.
Use the visa finder to explore the relevant entry information, then check the official eTA service for your nationality and circumstances. Prepare the personal portrait independently of the passport biodata-page scan. Copying the photograph from an existing passport is not the same as supplying a fresh image showing your present appearance.
Choose a current recognisable likeness and review photo quality, framing and facial expression. Keep enough image resolution when exporting to the requested digital delivery format, and use the detailed specifications below to check the image before upload. The consular guidance also lists itinerary and accommodation information, which should remain separate from the photo attachment.
Authorisation before travel and immigration examination on arrival are different stages. The Directorate describes facial-photograph and fingerprint capture at arrival as part of border processing. A photo submitted for eTA does not mean those checks disappear. Our embassy and consulate directory can help locate relevant consular assistance, while the official portal determines the current application requirements and any exemptions for your journey.
Photo dimensions must be precise to avoid rejection. The face-to-frame ratio is equally important for proper identification.
Use a plain, distraction-free background. We replace it automatically to meet official criteria.
Proper lighting ensures your photo is clear and natural. Uneven exposure or artificial glare can lead to rejection.
Your face must be fully visible with a neutral expression for easy identification and facial recognition.
Glasses are allowed only if they do not obstruct visibility. Headwear is permitted only for valid medical or religious reasons.
Improper posture can lead to application rejection. Your face and shoulders should be correctly aligned and fully visible.
