Kuwaiti Passport Photo

Preparing the Photograph for Kuwait’s Electronic Passport

A first electronic passport in Kuwait brings a supplied photograph together with the applicant’s Civil ID and the Ministry of Interior’s identity checks. The Ministry specifies one recent correctly sized photograph for its first-issue service. This is a useful distinction from the larger photographs used by some Kuwaiti residence services: the document you are requesting determines the version you need.

For the passport portrait, the Ministry’s guidance uses a blue background and a photograph taken within the preceding six months. Its examples also address visibility of the face, natural skin colour and avoiding reflections. Review the detailed requirements below before choosing the final image; our framing and photo quality guidance can help you inspect the result without changing your identifying features.

The application includes more than the photograph. Ministry guidance describes signature and fingerprint collection, with age-based exemptions for children. A supplied photo therefore does not remove the separate biometrics step. Assemble the required identity documents and follow the instructions for the service centre handling your application.

For a young child, prepare patiently and check the child-specific guidance rather than expecting the same facial expression as an adult. Keep a clear original from which suitable prints can be produced. If the passport request is being managed abroad, contact the Kuwaiti mission through our embassy and consulate directory to establish its local submission arrangements before sending the photo.
