A Photograph for Latvia’s Temporary Travel-Document Service

When a Latvian traveller needs an emergency document abroad, the relevant service is a temporary travel document arranged through consular assistance. Latvia’s 2025 regulations set out the emergency travel-document procedure and include specific photograph requirements. A request described informally as a laissez-passer should be directed to the mission so it can determine the appropriate document for the proposed journey.

The regulation’s photograph annex specifies a recent 35 × 45 mm image and requires that the person has been photographed within the preceding three months. Keep that shorter recency period in mind if you have spare visa photos. Confirm with the mission whether it will take the photograph or needs supplied prints under the procedure applicable to your case.

Prepare a clear portrait with a recognisable likeness. Review facial expression, framing and photo quality against the detailed guidance below, avoiding retouching that changes the face. The photo’s role is identification during an urgent document request, so an attractive social photograph or a scan of a damaged passport image may not be suitable.
