Official Latvian visa photo requirements for 2026. Size, background and rules. Create a compliant photo online.
Image Created with AI for IllustrationLatvia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists a colour photograph measuring 35 × 45 mm among the documents needed for a visa application. The photo accompanies the completed and signed form, travel document and other evidence for the visit. It identifies the applicant; the purpose of travel, accommodation and financial arrangements are established through separate supporting documents.
Check the receiving mission’s checklist as well as the Ministry’s general guidance. The United States mission, for example, asks for a recent image recent, while other mission checklists may request additional copies. Our embassy and consulate directory helps locate the relevant representation, and our visa finder can help you explore the route for a visit to Latvia.
Choose a portrait that shows a recognisable likeness, with suitable background and framing. The detailed specifications below explain the visual checks, while our photo quality guidance helps assess the image before making prints. Keep the original file available if the receiving service needs an electronic version or a fresh copy.
Complete the photo preparation before the submission appointment, then compare the personal details on the form with the passport. A well-prepared image does not replace insurance or the other required evidence. If your application is for a long stay or follows a residence-permit decision, check that specific service: its supporting documents and appointment arrangements should not be inferred from a short-visit checklist.
Photo dimensions must be precise to avoid rejection. The face-to-frame ratio is equally important for proper identification.
Use a plain, distraction-free background. We replace it automatically to meet official criteria.
Proper lighting ensures your photo is clear and natural. Uneven exposure or artificial glare can lead to rejection.
Your face must be fully visible with a neutral expression for easy identification and facial recognition.
Glasses are allowed only if they do not obstruct visibility. Headwear is permitted only for valid medical or religious reasons.
Improper posture can lead to application rejection. Your face and shoulders should be correctly aligned and fully visible.
