Certified Photographs for Lebanon’s Identity-Card Application

Lebanon’s national identity-card process is administered through the civil-status authorities. The Directorate General of Civil Status describes applications through the local mukhtar or designated fingerprint stations. For the mukhtar route, its checklist asks for two new photographs certified by that official, linking the supplied portrait with the civil-registration application.

The supporting papers include a civil-status extract for the identity card and evidence of blood group. Renewal and replacement requests also require the relevant previous-card or loss documentation. These records establish the individual’s details; the portrait provides the visual identification. Keep the photo distinct from copies of the accompanying identity documents.

Before certification, select a recognisable likeness with suitable facial expression, framing and photo quality. The detailed requirements below cover the visual checks. Prepare matching prints and preserve the original image so another copy can be produced if requested. Certification should be completed through the official procedure, without marks being added across the face or other identifying detail.

The Directorate’s guidance directs Lebanese residents abroad to apply for the new identity card when returning to Lebanon, through the specified domestic channels. That differs from a consular passport request.
