The Photograph Within Serbia’s Personal Identity Enrolment

The biometric identity card in Serbia is issued through a personal application. The identity-card law describes the applicant’s presence for establishing identity and collecting biometric information, including the photograph, fingerprint and signature. This places the portrait within an official enrolment process rather than making it a standalone document. Bring the supporting records required for your application and check the local appointment arrangements before attending.

For a child’s first identity card, the Interior Ministry’s guidance says a suitable recent square photograph may be provided voluntarily. This can be useful when preparing a child for the appointment, but it is not described as compulsory for every applicant. Ask the office how a supplied image will be handled and which parental or guardian documents are necessary. Keep the child’s portrait clearly separated from the adults’ identity documents, particularly when a family is applying for several documents at once.
