Slovak Residence Portraits After the Application-Photo Change

For a residence permit in Slovakia, older checklists can give a misleading impression of the photo step. The IOM Migration Information Centre explains that changes effective from July 2025 removed photographs from residence applications, except where biometric data cannot be collected. The practical question is therefore how your face will be recorded for the current procedure, rather than how many copies an older embassy page once requested. Confirm the instructions attached to your own appointment before ordering prints.

The residence category still determines the substance of the application. Slovakia offers temporary and permanent residence under different conditions, and the purpose of stay affects the evidence needed. A national entry visa may support the journey to Slovakia without being the same thing as a residence permit. Use the visa finder and the embassy and consulate directory for that preliminary distinction, then follow the responsible authority’s directions for the residence file. A portrait connects the resulting document to its holder, but cannot replace evidence of the grounds for residence.

Prepare for facial capture with the same attention to a recognisable likeness that you would give other identity documents.
