The Face on a Somali Go Home Travel Document

The Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls its return service the Temporary Emergency Travel Document, or Go Home document. It is intended for Somali citizens abroad who need to return to Somalia without a valid travel document. That purpose distinguishes it from an ordinary passport application or a visa for a foreign visitor. The portrait helps the issuing office connect the traveller to the identity and citizenship evidence presented in an urgent consular case.

The ministry directs applicants to the nearest Somali embassy or consulate with proof of citizenship, available personal identification and a completed application. Its public service summary does not provide a separate technical photo checklist. Ask the office found through the embassy and consulate directory which image and submission method it needs before assuming that ordinary-passport prints or a particular digital photograph format will be accepted. Keep any available identity documents and copies ready so the consular officer can assess the record alongside the face.
