Official Swedish visa photo requirements for 2026. Size, background and rules. Create a compliant photo online.
Image Created with AI for IllustrationA Swedish visitor-visa application needs to show both who is travelling and why the visit is planned. The portrait belongs alongside the passport and the evidence supporting the itinerary. Before preparing the photograph, establish the responsible application location and whether Sweden is the appropriate country to handle the Schengen request.
The Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka’s tourism and family-visit checklist asks for one colour photograph measuring 35 × 45 mm, showing the full face against a light background and taken within six months. This gives a concrete example of a Swedish mission’s submission requirements. Follow the checklist for your own application location, including its arrangements for appointments and biometric collection.
Use the photo requirements below to assess the picture, with guidance on framing, facial expression and photo quality. A recent likeness should remain clear when the image is placed in the visa file. Keep any requested prints protected from damage, and distinguish the separate portrait from a photocopy of the passport’s identity page.
Our visa finder helps organise research into the intended visit, while the Sweden page links to other Swedish document guidance. The embassy and consulate directory can help locate the responsible representation and its official checklist. Prepare the supporting identity documents and visit evidence together; a photograph that meets the technical rules is one necessary element, while the application also has to establish the purpose and conditions of the stay.
Photo dimensions must be precise to avoid rejection. The face-to-frame ratio is equally important for proper identification.
Use a plain, distraction-free background. We replace it automatically to meet official criteria.
Proper lighting ensures your photo is clear and natural. Uneven exposure or artificial glare can lead to rejection.
Your face must be fully visible with a neutral expression for easy identification and facial recognition.
Glasses are allowed only if they do not obstruct visibility. Headwear is permitted only for valid medical or religious reasons.
Improper posture can lead to application rejection. Your face and shoulders should be correctly aligned and fully visible.
