Preparing the Biometric Portrait for a Turkish Passport Appointment

A passport application in Turkey combines a recent biometric photograph with identity verification at the application appointment. The Population and Citizenship Affairs authority lists one photograph taken within the previous six months for the ordinary passport. Applications within Türkiye use the population directorates, while citizens abroad apply through Turkish missions. The appointment route therefore depends on where you are applying.

The portrait contributes to the document’s biometrics, so a current recognisable likeness matters even if your previous passport remains recognisable. Prepare direct framing, visible facial features and a natural facial expression. The authority’s guidance explains the required photograph format; the detailed specifications below help you prepare it without treating an old passport scan as a new portrait.

Keep the chosen digital photograph at useful image resolution and check the photo quality of the submitted copy. Bring the required identity documents and any existing passport alongside the photograph, with parental or legal consent where the applicant’s circumstances require it. Booking an appointment does not itself complete the application. The embassy and consulate directory can identify the overseas mission responsible for your residence, while the domestic appointment system provides the appropriate population-office service. Preparing the image and identity records together reduces the chance of a return visit caused by an avoidable mismatch or unsuitable photograph.
