National identity-card enrolment in Lesotho is part of the National Identity and Civil Registry service. The government’s citizen-enrolment checklist starts with a certified birth certificate, with naturalisation or registration certificates where relevant. Those records establish the person’s details; the photograph provides the visual connection to the holder of the resulting identity document.

Prepare for the registration visit by checking that your supporting identity documents reflect the details you want recorded. A passport application that uses the ID card as evidence does not itself update the national identity-card record.
