Preparing for Lesotho’s Passport Enrolment and Consular Photo Routes

Lesotho’s Home Affairs passport service directs adult first-time applicants to attend an enrolment centre or passport office with their national identity card. Replacement applications also require the old passport. The photograph belongs to this identification process, so establish where you will apply before deciding which image materials to prepare.

For applicants abroad, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs describes a consular application involving the form, citizenship evidence, photographs and the fee. The embassy in Washington publishes a more specific checklist with two passport-size photographs. Treat that as the mission’s own route rather than assuming the same paper-photo count applies at every domestic enrolment centre in Lesotho.

Prepare a portrait with a recognisable likeness, checking facial expression, framing and photo quality against the detailed requirements below. Keep the original image available if the mission requests additional prints. The submitted photograph should make the person easy to identify, without changing natural features or relying on an old picture taken for another document.

For a child, Home Affairs lists the birth certificate and parental or guardian documentation as part of the application. Organise those identity documents separately from the image and confirm attendance arrangements before travelling to the office. Our embassy and consulate directory can help locate the appropriate representation overseas, while the receiving passport service determines the final photograph and enrolment requirements for the applicant concerned.
