A New Portrait for Brazil’s National Identity Card

The Carteira de Identidade Nacional, or CIN, provides an identity-card route in Brazil with both a physical document and a digital version. Its photograph should identify the person receiving that record today. For someone replacing an older identity document, the relevant question is how the issuing state obtains the new image, not simply which passport-photo print to order.

Paraná’s Civil Police explains that the CIN photograph is captured at the service appointment without a separate photo charge. Its instructions for applicants without a Paraná identity record, or with an older record requiring the in-person route, describe booking attendance. The digital CIN becomes available through gov.br after the physical document has been issued.
