Cuban Residence Permit Photo

An Identity Portrait for a Foreign Resident in Cuba

A foreign resident’s identity document in Cuba is called the carné de identidad del extranjero. It is different from both a Cuban citizen’s identity card and a visitor’s entry authorization. The U.S. Department of State’s Cuban-document guidance identifies this foreigner card and describes identity documents for lawful temporary and permanent residents.

That distinction matters when preparing the photograph: the image belongs to the resident’s identity record, while the immigration decision establishes the permission to live in Cuba. Keep the passport, existing immigration papers and other requested identity documents together so the application particulars remain consistent.

When the residence service asks for a portrait, choose a current recognizable likeness with natural facial features. Clear framing and a calm facial expression help make the photograph useful for comparison. Our photo quality guide explains how to avoid lost detail, while the relevant photo requirements should determine the finished format. Retain the original digital photograph if you later need correctly prepared prints.

The Interior Ministry identification service is the appropriate starting point for the card procedure. Applicants arranging a move from abroad can use the embassy and consulate directory for Cuban consular contacts and the visa finder for initial entry research. Ask about the actual residence category and card service, rather than using a tourist-visa checklist as a substitute. Establishing those two stages early makes the photo preparation more precise.
