The Photograph Recorded with Your Luxembourg Passport Application

A passport application in Luxembourg brings together the applicant’s civil details and biometric identifiers. Guichet.lu explains that the authorised officer checks identity and nationality, records the application using the National Registry of Natural Persons and incorporates the biometric information. The photograph is therefore connected to a verified individual record, not simply attached to an anonymous booklet order.

For residents, the identity photo can be taken at the communal administration or at the Passport, Visa and Legalisation Office. This makes preparing for the appointment as important as preparing any requested supporting material. Bring the relevant identity documents and follow the selected office’s application arrangements; applications abroad are handled through the appropriate diplomatic service, which can be located using our embassy and consulate directory.

A current portrait should provide a recognisable likeness that will remain useful when the passport is checked during travel. Review facial expression, framing and photo quality with the detailed guidance below, and consult our explanation of biometrics for the image’s role in the document. The photograph does not replace the nationality checks or parental arrangements for a child’s application. Once the booklet is organised, our visa finder helps with separate destination requirements that may call for another photograph.
