Official North Korean visa photo requirements for 2026. Size, background and rules. Create a compliant photo online.
Image Created with AI for IllustrationA North Korean visa request needs to be matched to an authorised journey before the photograph is finalised. UK government entry guidance directs visa enquiries to the North Korean embassy and distinguishes organised tourism from independently arranged travel requiring a sponsor and official permission. Confirm the available route and current entry arrangements with the responsible representation.
The portrait is an identification attachment, separate from the passport and evidence explaining the visit. Ask the receiving mission for its current image instructions, including the format, size and number of copies. Requirements for a South Korean visa do not apply simply because both countries have “Korea” in their names.
Review the photo requirements below with the framing, background, facial expression and photo quality guidance. Use a current likeness and keep the face unobstructed. Retain a clean digital photograph if the mission requests an electronic file, and protect any required prints rather than attaching a photograph copied from an existing travel document.
Our visa finder helps organise entry research and the North Korea page links to other North Korean document information. Use the embassy and consulate directory to find the appropriate contact, then check the requested identity documents and supporting materials for the particular visit. Photo preparation should follow the confirmed application route; a correctly composed image does not establish that travel is available or that a visa has been approved.
Photo dimensions must be precise to avoid rejection. The face-to-frame ratio is equally important for proper identification.
Use a plain, distraction-free background. We replace it automatically to meet official criteria.
Proper lighting ensures your photo is clear and natural. Uneven exposure or artificial glare can lead to rejection.
Your face must be fully visible with a neutral expression for easy identification and facial recognition.
Glasses are allowed only if they do not obstruct visibility. Headwear is permitted only for valid medical or religious reasons.
Improper posture can lead to application rejection. Your face and shoulders should be correctly aligned and fully visible.
