The Portrait in Your Cesco Driving Record

A driving licence in Puerto Rico belongs to the DTOP and CESCO system. Its photograph identifies the person authorised to drive, while the licence category and driving record establish what that person may drive. This matters when preparing for a renewal: a good portrait cannot resolve a missing medical certificate or an incomplete licence application. Use the CESCO checklist for your particular transaction before deciding whether any separate photograph is needed.

CESCO offers appointments and digital services, but the availability of an online step should not be read as permission to upload any existing picture. Puerto Rico’s licence-renewal legislation provides for updating the applicant’s photograph at CESCO. Follow the current instructions for your renewal route, especially if you are changing details or applying for a different credential format. The identity documents you bring to establish who you are serve a different purpose from the new picture that appears in the driving record.

For the portrait itself, think about how easily an officer can compare it with your present appearance. A relaxed facial expression, unobstructed face and accurate recognisable likeness are more useful than a polished social-media image.
