Puerto Rican Visa Photo

A Visa Portrait for Travel to Puerto Rico

Foreign visitors travelling to Puerto Rico follow the applicable United States entry rules. There is no separate Puerto Rican visitor visa whose photograph can be prepared independently of the U.S. application. Start with the visa finder to understand the route relevant to your nationality and purpose of travel, then check the official instructions. Eligible Visa Waiver Program travellers use ESTA; other visitors may need a U.S. visa. These are different processes, so do not prepare a visa photograph solely because your destination is San Juan.

Where a nonimmigrant visa application uses form DS-160, the digital photograph is uploaded as part of completing that form. The confirmation page helps identify whether that step succeeded. The State Department explains that an X in the photograph box means the upload failed and a compliant printed photograph must accompany the confirmation page under the consular instructions. A successful upload does not remove the need to follow any additional guidance from the post handling your case.

Check image resolution, framing and overall photo quality before beginning the form, rather than trying to repair a compressed image during submission. The background and facial expression should also meet the detailed photo requirements below. Use the embassy and consulate directory to locate the relevant mission when you need post-specific guidance. Keep a clean original image available alongside any requested prints, and distinguish it from the scan of the passport identification page, which is a separate piece of application evidence.
