Your Irembo Passport Upload and the Later Biometric Appointment

Applying for an electronic passport in Rwanda includes an online photograph before the later biometric appointment. Irembo’s first-application guide lists the passport portrait separately from the national-ID copy and signature. The digital photograph is therefore an attachment in its own right, rather than a picture copied from the identity document. Preparing it before starting helps you complete the correct upload field without mixing the files.

After submission, the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration reviews the application and sends information about biometric capture. The appointment can be at a DGIE office or a Rwandan embassy, depending on the applicant’s location. An accepted online image does not remove that next step. For children, the required identity and guardian attachments depend on age and the selected minor category, so organise each child’s application separately.

Irembo’s image guidance warns against uploading a scan of an old passport or ID portrait. Use a fresh recognisable likeness with clear photo quality, suitable framing and the required background. Preserve an original image with sufficient image resolution so resizing does not mean repeatedly compressing a small copy.
