South African Visa Photo

Matching Your Visitor-Visa Photographs to the South African Application

A visitor-visa application for South Africa brings together the purpose of the trip, the traveller’s passport and the photographs requested by the receiving mission. The portrait identifies the applicant within that file; it does not replace the itinerary, accommodation information or other evidence supporting the visit. Start by establishing whether a visa is required for your nationality and planned stay.

For its visitor-visa service, the South African High Commission in Canberra asks for two recent, identical passport photographs and an application lodged in person by appointment. Those are the published instructions for that mission. Applicants using another post should confirm its current checklist instead of assuming that every appointment and submission arrangement is identical.

Use the photo requirements below to review the photograph, including framing, background and facial expression. A current likeness and consistent photo quality help the portrait match the person named on the form. Keep any requested prints together with the application so the correct number is available when the documents are checked.

Our visa finder helps organise entry research, while the South Africa page provides related South African photo guidance. Use the embassy and consulate directory to locate the representation responsible for your place of residence and confirm its application arrangements. Check the validity and details of your passport among the supporting identity documents. The visitor-visa process and border admission are related stages, but approval of the application does not remove the entry conditions applicable on arrival.
