Where Your Photograph Fits Into a Spanish Licence Renewal

A driving-licence renewal in Spain combines the holder’s photograph with the checks needed to confirm continuing validity. The Dirección General de Tráfico, or DGT, describes renewal services through authorised driver-recognition centres and through its traffic offices. Establish the route you will use before ordering photographs, since the service may already handle the image as part of the transaction.

DGT’s published guidance describes a current colour photograph for procedures requiring a supplied image. Review the background, framing and photo quality before making the final version. The purpose is an unobstructed likeness for identification; dark glasses or clothing that hides the face should not interfere with that view.

DGT also explains that photographs and the photo form do not need to be supplied again for transactions where the required material is already held, unless the image does not meet the requirements. That distinction matters when renewing or requesting another service. Check the actual request instead of assuming that every visit requires a fresh set of prints.
