Zimbabwe’s Driver Portrait from Road Test to Licence Card

The driver’s photograph in Zimbabwe is part of the connection between the road-test record and the licence produced by the Central Vehicle Registry. The Transport Ministry describes a SADC-compliant card system in which the driver’s biometrics are captured after passing the Vehicle Inspectorate road test and transferred through an integrated system for card production and quality control.

This process separates earning the driving entitlement from producing the physical identity-bearing card. The new system introduced alphanumeric vehicle codes in place of the older numerical classes. When collecting the card, check that the personal particulars, portrait and authorised codes correspond to your record; a satisfactory photograph does not correct an error in the underlying licence details.
