A Recognisable Photograph for Zimbabwe’s Chitupa Record

The national registration card, often called the Chitupa, is an important identity record in Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe’s London embassy describes it as supporting passport renewals, affidavits and authentication. It also explains that national identity cards are issued in Zimbabwe, so an overseas consular enquiry should not be mistaken for a complete card-replacement service.

The Civil Registry distinguishes initial registration from replacing a lost card or changing personal details. For a citizen’s first application, its published checklist includes the original birth certificate and a parent’s identity document, with copies. Correct civil information is therefore as important as the portrait: the portrait must belong to the person identified by those records.

Prepare a recent, recognisable likeness with the face visible and a straightforward facial expression. Even illumination makes the eyes and facial outline easier to assess.
