Preparing a Recognisable Portrait for Afghanistan’s Licensing Service

An Afghan driving licence identifies the driver within the traffic administration’s licensing record. The Ministry of Interior distinguishes new licences, renewals, category upgrades and replacements in its report on nationwide licensing work. Establishing which transaction you need is the first step when preparing both the supporting documents and any photograph requested in Afghanistan.

The ministry’s public service page does not publish a complete photo-submission checklist. Confirm the required format, number of prints and whether the image is supplied or captured with the traffic office handling your application. Passport or visa photo instructions should not automatically be treated as the driving-licence office’s requirements.

For the portrait itself, use the photo requirements below and the explanations of framing, background, facial expression and photo quality. A clear, current likeness is more useful for identification than a heavily edited picture. If a digital photograph is requested, preserve the original rather than sending a compressed copy extracted from another document.

Keep your available identity documents and any existing licence together when confirming the procedure. A renewal or replacement should be discussed as that specific service, rather than starting an unrelated first-licence request.
