Official Afghan passport photo requirements for 2026. Size, background and rules. Create a compliant photo online.
Image Created with AI for IllustrationThe passport service in Afghanistan asks applicants to prepare the photograph together with evidence of identity, including the Tazkira or relevant birth record. The Ministry of Interior’s online guidance makes that connection explicit: an identity-document photograph that no longer resembles the applicant may itself need updating. A current passport portrait therefore belongs within a consistent set of identity documents.
The national guidance calls for four photographs in its stated format, with a white background, and an online-form image taken within six months. It also requires attendance at the central or provincial passport office for biometrics and document submission. Filling out the online application is one stage, not the whole passport process.
Use the photo requirements to review the image and our photo quality guide to check that the likeness stays natural and recognizable. Retain the original digital photograph while arranging the requested prints, so the online and paper parts can be prepared from a consistent photograph. Follow the actual office’s instructions for the requested output.
Applicants abroad should confirm the service with the Afghan representation handling their case; our embassy and consulate directory helps locate official contacts. Consular arrangements can differ from the domestic checklist. If a destination visa is also needed, consult the visa finder and the destination’s instructions separately. The passport photograph establishes your likeness in the travel document; another application may ask for a different format.
Photo dimensions must be precise to avoid rejection. The face-to-frame ratio is equally important for proper identification.
Use a plain, distraction-free background. We replace it automatically to meet official criteria.
Proper lighting ensures your photo is clear and natural. Uneven exposure or artificial glare can lead to rejection.
Your face must be fully visible with a neutral expression for easy identification and facial recognition.
Glasses are allowed only if they do not obstruct visibility. Headwear is permitted only for valid medical or religious reasons.
Improper posture can lead to application rejection. Your face and shoulders should be correctly aligned and fully visible.
