Official Afghan residence permit photo requirements for 2026. Size, background and rules. Create a compliant photo online.
Image Created with AI for IllustrationWhen looking for a residence-permit photograph for Afghanistan, first identify the official document involved. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs describes a residence visa for foreign nationals continuing a stay that began under categories such as service, business, entry, student or crew visas. That is a more precise starting point than assuming every resident receives a separate plastic permit card.
The photo request should be read with the instructions for that residence-visa case. Keep the existing passport and visa among your identity documents, and confirm which office is handling the continued stay. The ministry publishes residence visas within its wider visa services; the visa finder can support research, while the responsible office establishes the applicable process.
A current portrait provides the visual link to the person named in the immigration record. Consult the photo requirements for photographic preparation and use the photo quality and facial expression guides for a usable image. Before ordering prints or preparing a digital photograph, ask for the actual delivery instructions rather than transferring an entry-visa photo request unchanged.
If you need to contact an Afghan representation from abroad, our embassy and consulate directory helps locate official details. Keep the distinction between entry and continued residence clear when explaining your circumstances. The source below identifies the residence-visa category, but does not publish a complete photo specification, so the receiving authority should confirm the number, format and submission method for your own request.
Photo dimensions must be precise to avoid rejection. The face-to-frame ratio is equally important for proper identification.
Use a plain, distraction-free background. We replace it automatically to meet official criteria.
Proper lighting ensures your photo is clear and natural. Uneven exposure or artificial glare can lead to rejection.
Your face must be fully visible with a neutral expression for easy identification and facial recognition.
Glasses are allowed only if they do not obstruct visibility. Headwear is permitted only for valid medical or religious reasons.
Improper posture can lead to application rejection. Your face and shoulders should be correctly aligned and fully visible.
