Your Australian Passport Photograph and Lodgement Route

Australia’s passport photograph is a physical print with tightly defined proportions. The Australian Passport Office asks for two photographs, each prepared to the required print size, with the chin-to-crown measurement between 32 and 36 mm. These ranges matter when reviewing an image that was originally composed for another country: the size of the face needs attention as well as the paper around it.

Use a recent colour portrait, less than six months old. The office specifies dye-sublimation printing on glossy, heavy-weight paper rather than inkjet output. Keep the face directly towards the camera and preserve its natural features. Removing a mole, smoothing wrinkles or reshaping the jaw changes the likeness that passport checks rely on.
