Fayda’s Facial Image Within Ethiopia’s Foundational Identity Record

Fayda gives eligible people in Ethiopia a foundational identity that can be used across services. Its enrollment record combines personal details with biometrics, including a facial photograph. This is not simply a passport photograph attached to a citizenship application: Fayda also provides a registration route for legal residents who can substantiate their status.

The national ID programme describes an ICAO-compatible facial image captured on site, together with fingerprints and iris scans. Each element serves a different identification purpose. The portrait records visible appearance, while the other captures establish additional biometric references. A clear recognizable likeness remains important even when the system contains several ways to distinguish people.

For the visit, organize the accepted identity documents and prepare to be photographed as you normally look. An unobstructed face and settled facial expression make the capture easier. The enrollment operator arranges the photographic background and equipment; our photo quality guide explains the visual clarity expected from an identification image without suggesting that a home-produced file replaces that appointment.

Foreign residents should use the programme’s published proof-of-status instructions when assembling their documents. Fayda identification and permission to remain in Ethiopia have different functions. Before attending, review the programme’s enrollment locations and the evidence appropriate to your circumstances, so the image can be associated with an accurate personal record.
