Official Ethiopian visa photo requirements for 2026. Size, background and rules. Create a compliant photo online.
Image Created with AI for IllustrationApplying for an electronic visa to Ethiopia involves preparing an applicant photograph as well as the passport image. The official e-visa service lists these separately: a colour copy of the passport provides the existing travel-document details, while the recent passport-style portrait represents the person making the new application. Photographing the passport page does not produce the second image.
The tourist category is intended for a single-entry tourism or other non-business visit. Begin with the purpose of travel and use the visa finder to explore the appropriate category before assembling the submission. The electronic application accepts image uploads in JPEG, JPG or PNG format, so retain a clean original digital photograph rather than a screenshot embedded in a document.
Inspect photo quality before uploading: facial detail should remain visible after saving, and the framing should retain the intended head-and-shoulders composition. Our background and facial expression guidance supports the photographic preparation. These checks help maintain a recognizable likeness; they do not replace the file instructions shown in the official application.
Keep the passport copy legible and the applicant image free of page borders, text or another person. If the online service does not cover the intended journey, the embassy and consulate directory can help locate official consular contacts. A suitable image belongs with the correct visa request, rather than determining which category a traveller is entitled to use.
Photo dimensions must be precise to avoid rejection. The face-to-frame ratio is equally important for proper identification.
Use a plain, distraction-free background. We replace it automatically to meet official criteria.
Proper lighting ensures your photo is clear and natural. Uneven exposure or artificial glare can lead to rejection.
Your face must be fully visible with a neutral expression for easy identification and facial recognition.
Glasses are allowed only if they do not obstruct visibility. Headwear is permitted only for valid medical or religious reasons.
Improper posture can lead to application rejection. Your face and shoulders should be correctly aligned and fully visible.
