The Portrait Accompanying a Hong Kong Visit or Transit Application

A visit or transit visa request for Hong Kong includes a recent photograph of the applicant. The Immigration Department’s published checklist distinguishes that picture from the travel-document copy and the evidence supporting the planned visit. Keeping these files separate helps the portrait remain associated with the person named in the application.

For the paper ID 1003A route, the checklist places the photograph on the first page of the form. Electronic services also support online submission of the form, photograph and supporting documents. Follow the chosen route’s instructions rather than assuming a printed-photo arrangement and an upload are identical.

Prepare a recognisable likeness and review photo quality before selecting the final portrait. The framing and background guidance below helps with the visual checks, while our digital delivery format explanation is useful when choosing between a photo file and a scanned document attachment. Preserve the original image if supplementary material is requested later.

Visa requirements vary by nationality and travel-document category, so confirm whether an application is needed before assembling the dossier. Our visa finder provides a starting point, and the embassy and consulate directory can help locate relevant representation overseas. The Immigration Department notes that some Chinese diplomatic and consular missions use visa-application centres for certain applicants. Check the office handling your case for the current submission arrangements, and keep each traveler’s photograph with the correct individual form when organising a group visit.
