A Photograph for the Certificate of Return to Kyrgyzstan

The Kyrgyz document relevant to an emergency journey home is the certificate of return, often sought when a passport is lost abroad. It is intended to enable return to Kyrgyzstan, rather than to replace an ordinary passport for further international visits. The Kyrgyz mission’s published guidance makes that limited purpose explicit, which is useful when planning both the photograph and the journey.

The Geneva mission’s guidance asks for two photographs for each person when arranging this certificate. Confirm the current size and delivery instructions with the mission receiving your case, particularly if applying elsewhere. Our embassy and consulate directory can help locate the appropriate representation; the relevant office must establish identity and determine whether the certificate can be issued.

Use a recent portrait that provides a recognisable likeness, even if copies of the missing passport are available. Those copies may support the identity inquiry, but the requested photograph should be prepared as a separate image. Review framing, facial expression and photo quality against the detailed specifications below before producing the prints.

Keep the photograph alongside the available identity documents and the information explaining the missing or unusable passport. Before finalising travel, ask the mission about the proposed route and confirm any carrier or transit arrangements. The certificate’s purpose is return home; neither a suitable photo nor possession of the document should be taken as permission to add unrelated visits to other countries.
