Sri Lankan Passport Photo

Getting the Sri Lankan Passport Portrait Into the Official System

A passport photograph for Sri Lanka must reach the application through the route used by the issuing office. For domestic applications, the Department of Immigration and Emigration describes digital submission through an authorised studio or its head and regional offices. The application also involves personal attendance for the applicable biometric recording. Preparing the image and completing that official handover are separate parts of the process, so check both before attending.

Applications through Sri Lankan missions abroad follow a different arrangement. The department expressly distinguishes them from the domestic digital-photo and fingerprint procedure, and its overseas circular gives instructions for supplied photographs. Use the embassy and consulate directory to confirm the receiving mission’s checklist instead of assuming the domestic workflow applies unchanged abroad. A clean portrait should remain a current recognisable likeness, regardless of whether it enters the system through a studio or accompanies a consular application.

The photo preparation guide, facial expression, framing and photo quality guides help with the visual preparation, and the detailed photo requirements below give the image overview. Keep the photograph consistent with your supporting identity documents and retain the submission acknowledgement or other evidence requested by the office. For a child, prepare the child’s own image and application record rather than treating a parent’s photograph as sufficient. If the mission asks for prints, follow that mission’s current instructions; if the domestic service uses a digital photograph, make sure it has been submitted through the required channel rather than merely saved on your phone.
